A beautiful wood door doesn't lose its character with age. More often, that character becomes hidden beneath years of deteriorating finishes, sunlight exposure, and environmental wear.

Our door restoration process focuses on more than improving the surface appearance. We carefully evaluate the existing finish, address deterioration, and prepare the wood for a new staining and finishing system.

Depending on the condition of the door, this may involve removing the existing coating, sanding back to bare wood, correcting uneven coloration, and preparing intricate moldings and raised panels.

The goal isn't simply to make an old door look newer. It's to reveal the natural beauty of the wood while preserving the craftsmanship that makes the entrance worth restoring.

Our Door Restoration Process

1. Masking

We carefully mask glass, trim, flooring, and surrounding surfaces to keep your home protected throughout the refinishing process.

2. Sanding

We remove the old finish and carefully sand and prepare the door, including detailed moldings and raised panels, to create the right foundation for the new finish.

3. Staining

We use professional-grade Gemini stains to create rich, even color while highlighting the natural grain and character of the wood.

4. Sealing

The door is professionally sprayed with European marine-grade urethane for a smooth, furniture-quality appearance and protection from sun, moisture, and weather. We apply four coats, refining the surface between each.

5. Clean & Inspect

After the final coat, we remove all protection, clean the work area, and carefully inspect the finished entrance.

How long will the my door last after I refinish it?
Front doors are constantly exposed to sunlight and exterior weather conditions. It is important to realize that a wooden front door requires maintainence in order to keep it in it's best quality. When we refinish a door we apply four coats of protective Melesi Coatings clear coat on top of our stain. Each coat will last about a year. We provide you with easy DIY maintenance tips to keep your door in tip top shape and leave you with the remainder of the clear coat to brush on a coat every year. Doing this will save you from replacing your door down the road which is a very costly endeavor.
Can I go to a lighter stain color?
Absolutely! Whenever we take on a door refinishing project we sand the existing finish and stain all the way off - allowing you to pick a stain color of your liking. We also have the ability to custom match your existing door color.
Do you remove the doors when refinishing them?
In most instances, no we do not. There are certain cases where we will need to take the door down and finish it off site. In these cases we board up your entryway temporarily until the door can be reinstalled. But in most cases we refinish the doors in place and mask around them to eliminate dust and overspray.
